Registration and the used market
French-registered aircraft (F-...) trade actively, and the aero-club culture means many airframes have long, well-documented histories — but also high training utilisation. Distinguish between a privately owned aircraft and one that spent 30 years in a club circuit.
ULM (microlight) rules in France are among Europe's most liberal: no medical requirement and simple declarative registration. That freedom does not transfer automatically if you later move the aircraft to another country's registry.
Costs and infrastructure
Airfield fees are generally moderate and many aerodromes are municipally supported. Hangarage near Paris and on the Côte d'Azur is the exception — expect waiting lists and premium pricing at Cannes, Nice and Toussus-le-Noble.
France's maintenance network is dense for common types (Robin, Cessna, Piper, Diamond). Robin aircraft in particular have their home support base here, which matters for wooden-structure inspections.
