With a manufacturer document66

Of the 546 general aviation aircraft models in the PlaneFit database, 146 are still being built as of July 2026, across 53 manufacturers. 400 have ceased production. 66 of the 146 in-production models, 45 percent, carry a first-party manufacturer document naming them in the current lineup; the remaining 80 do not. Both figures are published below, because the gap between them is the more useful finding.

Models in production by class, 2026

Every catalogued model, split by whether the factory is currently building new airframes. Ordered by how much choice a buyer actually has.

What this counts

In production means the manufacturer is currently building new airframes of that model. It is a claim about the present tense, not about whether the type certificate is live, whether parts and support remain available, or whether the model is still being sold second-hand. All three routinely outlast production by decades, which is why counts drawn from certificate registers run so much higher than this one.

A model counts once. Variants that share an airframe but differ enough to change what a buyer gets are held as separate rows and counted separately, because a buyer choosing between them is choosing between two different aircraft.

Conversion and upgrade packages do not count as production. A package fitted to an airframe built decades ago is still sold, but no new airframe is. Those rows take their production span from the airframes they are fitted to, so a package that is currently marketed does not appear here as an aircraft currently built.

Verifiedmeans one further thing: a page published by the manufacturer names that model in its current lineup, and a human read that page in a recorded month. A forum post, a broker listing, a specification sheet of unknown vintage or a press release from 2014 do not qualify. The document has to be the manufacturer's own and it has to be dated.

The finding: nobody maintains this record, including manufacturers

80 of the 146 models counted as in production have no first-party document behind them. That is not a claim those models have stopped. It is the absence of any published page, from the company that builds the aircraft, that says in 2026 whether it still does.

This is the real state of the public record. A specification page that has not changed in eight years cannot answer the question, because nothing about it says whether the factory is running. The only documents that settle it are current lineup pages, delivery announcements and production restarts, and roughly 55 out of every 100 in-production models in this catalogue have none that we could find and date.

We publish the unverified count rather than quietly folding it into the headline because a statistic that cannot be challenged is not worth citing. If you quote the 146 figure, quote the 66 alongside it.

Each row links to the manufacturer page naming the model in its current lineup, and the month that page was read. Check any of them.
